Carbon Neutrality Declaration

Carbon Neutrality Declaration

Madepal: Carbon neutral

MADEPAL S.A.S., an industrial wooden packaging company, carried out the quantification of its corporate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions for the year 2025, preparing the Corporate Carbon Footprint Report in accordance with the guidelines of the GHG Protocol, within the framework of the Valle Carbono Neutro program led by the CVC and ICONTEC.

According to the results of the 2025 inventory, the organization generated a total of 236.17 tCO₂e, distributed as follows:

Scope 1 (direct emissions): 11.66 tCO₂e
Scope 2 (electricity): 0.00 tCO₂e
Scope 3 (other indirect emissions): 224.52 tCO₂e

The year 2025 corresponds to the base year of the organization's Carbon Neutrality Management Plan; therefore, no reduced or removed emissions are reported, nor reductions derived from projects implemented by the organization.

In compliance with its compensation policy, MADEPAL S.A.S compensated 100% of the emissions corresponding to Scope 1 for the year 2025, equivalent to 11.66 tCO₂e, through the acquisition of 12 tCO₂e, certified through the SKCARBONO project:

  • ID: ECOxC_1186321162_147
  • Initial serial: CDC_46_1_29_321_14_R1_XX_CO_1_3_2013_1710
  • Final serial: CDC_46_1_29_321_14_R1_XX_CO_1_3_2013_1721
  • Vintage year: 2013

For Scope 2, emissions were zero, since the organization is a self-generator of photovoltaic electricity.

The certificates were acquired through Smurfit Westrock, a strategic wood supplier to the organization and an entity that has duly certified emission reduction and removal projects.

Through this action, MADEPAL S.A.S declares corporate carbon neutrality for Scopes 1 and 2 corresponding to the year 2025, and commits to maintaining this condition during the period 2025 – 2028, through the implementation of reduction actions, technological modernization, strengthening the use of renewable energy, and annual compensation established in the present Carbon Neutrality Plan.

Likewise, the organization establishes a vision of continuity for its climate management strategy towards the periods 2029 – 2031 and 2032 – 2034, with the purpose of continuing to work, explore and evaluate opportunities that allow maintaining carbon neutrality in Scopes 1 and 2 and progressively advancing in emission reductions.

The organization reaffirms its commitment to the continuous improvement of its environmental performance and to actively contributing to climate change mitigation within the framework of its productive operations.

Emissions generated by the treatment of wastewater in a septic tank are excluded from the 2025 measurement, as the associated emissions are considered not material, and sufficient information is not available for their quantification with an acceptable level of uncertainty.

Likewise, emissions associated with the hybrid vehicle are excluded, as it is a vehicle over which the company does not have operational control within the organizational boundaries defined for the GHG inventory.

It is also clarified that, in the 2025 measurement, the fuel used in stationary sources corresponds to biomass. The wood purchased as raw material corresponds to pine, and the wood residues (“firewood”) generated during the production process are commercialized as firewood for combustion in stationary sources. CO₂ emissions from biomass are considered biogenic emissions, in accordance with the guidelines of the GHG Protocol.
