Natural forest harvesting should only be carried out with the proper permits, management plans, traceability, and practices that allow the ecosystem to regenerate. Harvesting does not mean destroying the forest.
- Appropriate time of year: Harvesting during the dry season is recommended to minimize soil erosion and prevent machinery from damaging the terrain.
- Age and maturity of trees: Trees should only be harvested once they have reached commercial maturity without affecting the continued growth of the forest.
- Forest management plans: Harvesting must be based on a management plan approved by the environmental authorities.
- Selective harvesting methods: Specific trees are harvested instead of clearing large areas, allowing the forest to regenerate.
- Reforestation and natural regeneration: Seed trees and key species are preserved to support forest recovery.
- Use of by-products: In addition to timber, other resources such as resins, bark, fruits, and leaves can be used without damaging the ecosystem.
- Environmentally friendly technologies: Low-impact machinery and extraction systems such as cable systems or animal traction can be used.
Although sustainable harvesting of natural forests is possible, at Madepal we have chosen not to engage in it. We prefer not to become involved when this activity is not carried out properly or is not managed by highly reputable companies with rigorous internal controls and international audits. We believe in environmental responsibility and in promoting sustainable sources of timber, ensuring that our work does not contribute to deforestation or the degradation of natural ecosystems.

However, at Madepal we remain committed to working exclusively with wood from responsible and certified sources, avoiding any practice that could negatively affect the environment.
