Madepal History

Historical Overview

Our History

Madepal was founded in 1994 in the municipality of Jamundí, initially focused on carpentry and the production of construction materials under the name Industrias Care. Later, it relocated its operations to the district of Palmaseca, in Palmira, where it redefined its focus towards the manufacturing of industrial packaging and adopted its current name: MADEPAL.

With its arrival in Palmaseca, MADEPAL gradually became a source of employment and opportunities for the local community. From the beginning, the company established a hiring policy prioritizing local residents, fostering regional development.

MADEPAL’s first production plant was built using a structure made of guadua bamboo and zinc sheets, a solution suited to the economic limitations of the time. Additionally, the absence of an industrial power grid in the area posed a significant challenge for operations. To overcome this difficulty, the company installed a power generation plant powered by a diesel engine.

In pursuit of technological and productive improvements, the company, with the support of the CED CARANA USAID program, designed and implemented a modernization project. As a result, in November 2004, a three-phase power grid with a 112 KVA transformer was installed, ensuring efficient operation of its equipment and machinery.

To comply with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures ISPM 15 of the FAO, which require heat treatment for wooden packaging used in international trade, MADEPAL designed and built a drying chamber. This innovative facility utilizes wood residues from its own processes (biomass), significantly reducing drying costs. In February 2006, a second kiln with the same capacity was put into operation, and in April 2010, a third dryer was added, incorporating technological improvements to make it more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Additionally, the company developed a monitoring, control, and record-keeping system to comply with ISPM 15 and ICA requirements. Currently, 14 wood industry companies nationwide use the DATAGRAFIC system, created by MADEPAL in partnership with Electrosoft, to control their drying and heat treatment processes.

Committed to the development of the timber industry, MADEPAL was one of the founding companies of the Valle Timber Association (ASOMAVALLE) in 2006. Since then, it has led and managed this organization, promoting the growth and strengthening of the sector.

Since 2001, we have been certified by Icontec under the ISO 9001 quality management system for the production and sale of industrial wooden packaging. We were one of the first companies in the sector to obtain certification and remain among the few that have maintained it.

In 2017, and continuing to this day, we have been certified and recognized by the national government through the CVC for our responsible management of legal wood: "Legal Provenance and Promotion of Sustainable Forest Management."

In 2020, we received the Green Business seal awarded by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and the responsible management of natural resources.

In 2019, the company embarked on an ambitious sustainable energy independence project, investing in a solar energy generation plant. By 2020, the first phase of the project was completed, covering 60% of its energy needs. By 2022, it reached 80%, and by 2024, 100% of its energy consumption came from solar sources. By 2025, the installed capacity of the solar plant exceeds its needs by 40%, allowing for the commercialization of surplus energy in the market. This strategy ensures sustainable growth and offsets the natural degradation of solar panels without compromising energy self-sufficiency.

MADEPAL’s commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and quality is reflected in its numerous achievements and publications, establishing itself as a benchmark in the industry.
